Congratulations to Robert Ballin of Trinity Construction,
who was the lucky winner of the Limited Edition Harley
Davidson motorcycle!
• The Keynote Luncheon featuring Colonel Oliver
North was a sellout event, with over 300 in attendance.
• Florida brings home the “Concrete Cup!”
The four-man team from Rinker Materials, which included
Tim Rutherford, Scott Shipic, Dave Funkhouser and
Jeff Ferrell, scored a net round of 49 to win this
year’s INCON golf tournament and take home the
infamous “Concrete Cup,” formerly in possession
of the Carolinas Ready Mixed Industry. |

Golf Shirts Available
A limited supply of golf shirts remain on
hand following the Innovations in Concrete Show & Conference
(INCON). Embroidered with the INCON logo, these shirts come
in a variety of sizes and colors and sell for $30 each.

Safety
& Skills Competition Approaching
The 7th Annual Safety & Skills Competition will be held
on Saturday, November 8 at the Florida State Fairgrounds
in Tampa. Over 70 participants from across the state will
compete in a variety of events, including Ready-Mix, Preventive
Maintenance, Forklift Operator and Frontend Loader contests.
Prizes will be awarded to the first, second and third place
winners. The entry deadline is Friday, October 24. The competition
will begin at 8:00 am, with complimentary lunch and a variety
of children’s activities provided throughout the day.

FC&PA
Co-Sponsors SASHTO
FC&PA, along with several related industry groups, co-sponsored
the ACPA reception held during the SASHTO Conference in
Charleston, West Virginia on September 15. Dr. Armaghani
represented the Association at the conference, which was
attended by numerous members of the FDOT and Florida-based
consultants.
Parking
Lot Group Holds Planning Retreat
The Parking Lot Group met September
11-12 at Bay Hill Club in Orlando to discuss strategies
of promoting concrete paving for parking lots throughout
the state, starting at the regional level and incorporating
graduates of the Parking Lot Sales Training program. Among
the goals of the regional representatives: obtaining the
latest list of graduates for each region; forming regional
teams with specific action plans; following up on past presentations
and reporting back all success stories. Committee Chairman
Ross Adolph and FC&PA staff engineer Diep Tu will attend
regional meetings, assisting regional teams in establishing
action plans and following up with any necessary training.
2003-2004
Dates Set for CCSP Program
The 2003-2004 training schedule for the Certified Concrete
Sales Professional (CCSP) program has been set. The program,
which provides a basic understanding of technical products,
customer and general business knowledge and professional
sales skills, will begin with Module I on October 27. The
current schedule for Module I is as follows:

Masonry
Workshop Schedule
Winding Down
Just two Masonry Certification and Inspection Workshops
remain on this year’s schedule. The two-day program
will resume early next year, traveling to various locations
around the state. Attendees are educated on the new building
code, as well as the Masonry Standards Joint Committee’s
Building Code Requirements for Masonry Structures and Specifications
for Masonry Structures.
